Falsehoods of Forty(ish)

I regularly see or hear signs of “after forty you don’t give a “f__k” Yes, mom, that word. The thing is I don’t think what’s meant to be represented by this statement comes across correctly. While I am not nearly as concerned with public opinion as I once was, I do give a “f__k” about things and people more than ever before. To review, yes to giving a “f__k.”

I want to live a world that is full of people who care about others and things so passionately that they have all the “f__ks.” But I also want to live in a world where we don’t stifle our potential for popularity or silence ourselves for stereotypes . I think that’s where the phrase gets lost and/or wrongly applied. We should care about our causes, but we shouldn’t obsess over public perception of them. That’s probably a better, gentler way of expressing said sentiment, and less of a middle finger to the people who aren’t here to have age equated to emboldened egos.
