UnFiNISHED

,

It is wise to master your self, but it is wiser to leave a few rogue thoughts, some few doubts, and some loose ends. It is into the wild and unfinished places that we can grow. โ€• Chris Ernest Nelson

I hope to always have a to-do list. In other words, I never want completely finished business. And in the spirit of what’s unfinished, below is my 40 during 40s list. Please note I didn’t do a 40 by 40 list. 1. I wasn’t ready. 2. Covid. 3. I’ve learned I’m not into deadlines for stuff like this. The anxiety produced by a date can paralyze me.

These are dreams, some of which might happen overnight while others will take time.

With less than two weeks until the big day I consider this the kick-off of sorts. This isn’t some random bucket list or carefully curated “midlife moment.” It’s a culmination of leftovers from my thirties and a need for new(ish) adventures. It’s my life vision. Think whatever you want, but I am focused. More importantly, I am fearless.

  1. Publish. Itโ€™s been a dream since forever. Itโ€™s ongoing. Iโ€™m picking up the pen, literally. โœ… ๐Ÿ”„
  2. Rockstar shape status. I donโ€™t even know what this is exactly, but I want to look in the mirror and love my reflection freely and proudly. ๐Ÿ”„
  3. Write a song with Ed Sheeran. I told you this was random, but whatever itโ€™s my list.
  4. Go the place that explains the dreams in my head aka the home of Anne Shirley. Prince Edward Island, here I come.
  5. Coffee with Dan Fogelman. Also, Iโ€™m not okay about This Is Us ending.
  6. Work at Z100 with Elvis Duran.
  7. Go to Woodstock Vermont and take a basic bridge photo. Google it!
  8. Spend more time in Buffalo, New York aka my hometown.
  9. Visit the places/homes my grandparents were born.
  10. Learn to make sourdough with Taylor Swift.
  11. A trip with college friends. Sherri, I miss you.
  12. Celebrate someoneโ€™s 100th birthday.
  13. Watch a Broadway show come to life.
  14. Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.
  15. Work on โ€œthe show.โ€ If you know, you know.
  16. Be in more photos with my children.
  17. Go to the ocean more. ๐Ÿ”„
  18. Go on tour with a band. Sincerely, I really feel like Iโ€™ve missed a moment here.
  19. Bartend.
  20. Write letters to former teachers. ๐Ÿ”„
  21. I want to learn to curl and host a curling tournament.
  22. Bring a WNY meat raffle to the garden state.
  23. Go whitewater rafting.
  24. Speak to a big crowd. I love big crowd energy.
  25. Climb a mountain. Why the hell not? โœ… ๐Ÿ”„
  26. Family interviews. Theyโ€™ll torture me with sarcasm, but I want them on tape.
  27. Have all the old family VHS tapes converted to CD and/or digital files.
  28. Help someone believe in something bigger and better again.
  29. Volunteer with Special Olympics.
  30. Run a 5k. I am not a runner, I hate running, but I love the feeling of completing a race.
  31. Gather with friends more. I look forward to celebrating and savoring the relationships in my life.
  32. Plan a trip to Paris. Iโ€™ve never been and I canโ€™t live vicariously through Emily in Paris. It simply wonโ€™t do.
  33. Visit as many new coffee shops as I can. Coffee is everything. ๐Ÿ”„
  34. Find my fashion style. Seriously, Iโ€™ve got to get out of these leggings.
  35. Earn big money, give big money.ย
  36. Get a major brand partnership for the blog.
  37. Publish a journal.
  38. Podcast.
  39. Go on the Today Show.
  40. Begin and end each day with a thank you prayer. ๐Ÿ”„
  41. Work on Influencers that Matter project
  42. Home refresh ๐Ÿ”„
  43. Hit 100k followers (Currently have 140)
  44. Take a nice family picture for a Christmas card

  2. I need to-do lists too, and I don’t like not having things to strive for. I’ve recently reached my writing goals of being published, and I have to say that it’ll benefit you to turn ‘Publish’ into specific and measurable tasks. Sure, it seems cheesy, and very self-help-y, but that’s what had helped me achieve my goals.

So my ‘get publish’ goal was divided into: ‘write at least 250 words a day’, ‘research at least five places I can pitch to’, and ‘edit at least one chapter a day’. Roughly.

Anyway, wishing you the best with your writing pursuits!
